Launch of THEMIS

In Greek mythology, Themis was one of the mighty Titans, the goddess of wisdom, justice and good oath. But on February 17 2007, a group of satellites hurtled up into space atop a Delta II rocket at Cape Canaveral, Florida. THEMIS stands for Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms. These substorms are, as defined by Wikipedia, energy releases from Earth's magnetosphere. These are the causes for the colorful phenomenon near the North Pole, known as the Auroras or the northern lights. This mission will allow NASA to learn more about the northern lights.
